Pio Cesare Barolo 95 point - James Suckling

Lige fra Pio Cesares grundlæggelse som vinhus i 1881, har man stået i front i kampen for at gøre Barolo til Italiens største vin. 100% Nebbiolo fra de gamle vinmarker Ornato, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra og Novello er med til at give en klassisk Barolo, der har det bedste grundmateriale fra hele Barolo området. Mosten har kontakt med drueskindet i 20 dage og efter gæring på ståltanke, der lagres 30% af vinen i små 225 liter fade af fransk eg. De resterende 70% lagres i store franske fade på mellem 2000 og 5000 liter. Efter 3 år blandes vinen og tappes på flaske hvor den hviler i Pio Cesares kældre indtil frigivelse. Aromatisk spiller denne Barolo på de helt klassiske dyder: violer, tørret kød, læder, menthol, rosenbusk og en ren rød frugt. På tungen fornemmer man straks den intense tanninstruktur, men kombineret med en saftig og poleret rød frugt. En Barolo der i sine unge år bør iltes 3-4 timer før servering for at vise sin tilgængelige side. Efter yderligere 5-6 år i flasken udvikler vinen en elegance som kan sammenlignes med de største vine fra Bourgogne. Metamorphoses all the time. Full to medium body, characterized by a fantastic mouthfeel of ripe and round tannins that are always polished and beautiful. Magnificent harmony and purity. Drink or hold." 95 point - Parker/The Wine Advocate: "The Pio Cesare 2013 Barolo offers all of the plentiful qualities that make this such a memorable vintage. Because the growing season was slightly cooler compared to the two years preceding it, 2013 offers a great sense of freshness and brightness. Fruit was sourced from seven different vineyard sites (with much of it coming from Serralunga d'Alba). Starting in 2015, Monforte d'Alba fruit will be added. The tannins are tightly integrated within the firm fabric of the wine. Yet, the finish is round and supple. This Barolo offers characteristic aromas of wild berry, black truffle and cola.
