94 point - Prince of Pinot: "From a 6-acre vineyard near Sebastopol in western Sonoma County. Dijon and Swan clones planted in Goldridge sandy loam. Aged 22 months in French oak barrels, 35% new. Moderately light reddish purple color in the glass. Often my favorite COBB bottling, this wine has a glorious nose featuring cherry, rose petal, baking spice and dark chocolate aromas. Elegant and suave, with exquisite balance, this mid weight beauty flaunts its delicious essence of fresh cherries with enticing accents of spices including cinnamon. Very easy to drink now with seamless oak integration and a glorious finish of more than respectable length. Score: 94 points." 92 point - Wine Enthusiast: "From a six-acre site further inland than many of the producer's other sources, this wine shines in classic coastal expression nonetheless. It presents a mix of earthy, stemmy forest and black tea, with a touch of reduction and lightness of oak and power. Delicately textured, it delivers a refined style." +90 point - Antonio Galloni, Vinous: The 2013 Pinot Noir Rice-Spivak Vineyard is a bit more delicate and not as fruit-forward as it can be. Readers should expected an understated, laid-back Pinot that leans more towards restraint than the pliancy that is typical of this site. Sweet red berry and rose petal notes begin to emerge in the glass, but the 2013 remains a touch compact and classically austere in style. My impression is that this fruit may have come in on the early side, as the flavors and textures feel not fully developed. At the same time, these wines have a way of blossoming in bottle. It will be interesting to see if that happens here.
